Maybe the correspondent thought the professor was related to the right wing nut job Society.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•The rich convinced us that taxing them is too complicated but everyday people can be taxed pretty easilyEnglish
43·2 months agoYou wouldn’t even have to make a huge reform to make a big difference. If we changed using “unrealized gains” as collateral to count as realizing those gains, the ultra wealthy would pay a fuck ton more in taxes. Also, the interest on those loans should not be deductible. Boo hoo if you end up with a margin call. Don’t make risky bets.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•They are a cancer on societyEnglish
13·2 months agoIt is not just the people dying who suffer. I had shoulder surgery, and need physical therapy. I have used up the thirty visits my insurance covers. I still have chronic pain and range of motion limitations. I do the exercises at home, but the therapists would do manipulations and supervise progress when I was able to go. I probably won’t ever fully recover.
Idiots in charge still oppose socialized medicine. I’d like them all to bleed out from an untreatable hemorrhoid infection.

4·2 months agoIt is ridiculous. I am interviewing for embedded systems development where we frequently write to specific bits in a register. I am sure these kids have had to learn something, but I can’t figure out a polite way to ask them to give me some examples of what.

541·2 months agoWe have been interviewing for entry level positions and the new grads know less than ever before. I don’t really care what they know, I am looking for evidence that they can think, but I usually ease them into thinking scenarios by asking easy foundational questions like how many bits in a byte. You would think I was asking for them to explain the Shrodinger wave equations… One candidate was waivering between 13 and 17…
Helium is my current choice.

1·2 months agoDestiny is a better game than Marathon with broader appeal. They shouldn’t invest so heavily in a niche extraction shooter. What’s next? a game that is entirely escort missions?

I bet the sentence would not be 90 days if the genders were swapped.
