It’s one of the paradoxes of being trans. You tell you’re trans, “why are you making a big deal out of it, who cares, why is everyone pushing trans agenda these days”, but if you don’t tell, then you’re lying and deceiving others and you should always tell about it, everyone you interact with has the right to know!! There are no winning moves with hate

I wonder do dingoes have them. I haven’t been able to find any information on that yet

71·1 month agoIt’s the same with artists, writers, actors, politicians… basically any public person. Those roles attract total assholes who want fame and people to pander them (and money), and since they’re also the ones that are most ready to kick others down to climb up, they’re more likely to “make it”. Reading up on anyone whose works you like is always a roulette with multiple rounds in
Interestingly some dog breeds also still lack those muscles, like huskies

Games@lemmy.world•I still can't get over Skyrim. Are there any games that can replace it?English
1·1 month agoMinecraft is actually really good for this, you can pretty much hoard everything the world has in it. I always end up just doing nothing but building hoards full of food and means to produce it everywhere like some small mammal preparing for a long winter lmao. I guess you should rather try the other games that mimic it though since microslop, but I haven’t tried those

3·1 month agoYeah they all think they’re the main character in the room, basically all very rich people do. Any co-operating is just not going to work out long-term
It is depressing things turned out this way, thanks for giving more context of the situation on your side of the ocean to this internet rando. USAs been on my personal boycott list for a while now, with countries like China and Israel… it is truly a sad state of affairs I even have that list.
I certainly do not envy the situation on your side of the ocean, since just watching from far away things seem to be incredibly fucked. I hope you can find some solution that doesn’t include becoming even worse dystopian hell or devastate everything, especially since the rest of the world will still take a hit too… But yeah I am not a person that has an opinion about that, that matters.
I’m assuming there’s more going on in the talks of European leaders right now, but it’s not just revealed. At least they seem to be finally waking up to the realization that USA is not an ally anymore yeah, not as long as your recent disaster of a leadership is in power. Ukraine is holding out pretty well right now all things considered, they’ve gotten a lot of internal damage done with bringing the war closer to many russians by their drone strikes. I don’t know will Putin crumble before he succumbs to old age, but his position is growing weaker as things stand.
The only way Russia stops it’s warring though really is if it breaks internally and the russian imperialism - that drives the invasions and genocides - is eradicated. Any ceasefire or stop to the war in Ukraine just means they will use the time to gather their resources for a new attack to somewhere, even if it takes some years. And the only way I can see Russia ever being free of the imperialism, is if it fully breaks internally into independent states. No outside force can help with that, that would just give a convenient enemy to blame, and let them continue with the imperialism even if temporarily hindered

1·1 month agoGood you haven’t! Everyone is better off not reading the discussions were they spout stuff like defending gulags since those “only killed few million people”. I do try to call them out when I see it, but these days I just mostly insult them when I can, so I can block whoever gets triggered and reveals themselves. I owe them nothing and they won’t get anything fruitful out of me since I’m not engaging in a way that allows them to spout even more propaganda, so it’s win-win for all. Also I get to insult tankies

1·1 month agoOh for sure it’s in bad faith, it pisses me off to see stuff like people defending China genociding tibetans
Oh we agree on that, but sacrificing Ukraine or some other country to get the rest of Europe to wake up is a terrible plan that’d just make things easier for Russia. I’d be great if the ones holding the decisive powers in Europe cared and understood, but as long as they don’t, you have to play by their rules or you’re kinda toast. The process for things to happen is far from simple when it’s Europe in question, and I don’t know are we getting there or not

1·1 month agoCan’t really ad hominem when it’s not an argument in the first place. I’m insulting tankies
I’m being realist here, I’m finnish and I know fully well it’s genocide every time Russia attacks somewhere, they’ve done that many times in history here as well. Do you think Ukraine can hold on without the support of European countries? France or Germany or any other western European countries don’t have Russia breathing on their neck, and support for war that’s “not theirs” is easily manipulated by all the shills and bot factories Russia has to spout it’s propaganda.
There is no justice coming, the “evil” will not be held accountable, or if they are, only barely. But making your own odds worse is not going to help, it’s not gonna stop Russia from genociding or stop the palestinian children being brutally murdered. It’s not really about moral high ground in this case - the ones holding it are the ones that don’t understand the war nor care enough. But every bullet and drone strike Ukraine does is one we don’t have to do on our border, ask finnish, polish or someone from the Baltics and you get a whole different view on Russia than you’d get from countries not neighboring it

2·1 month agoI’ve met plenty of normos! The people who will give you a blank stare, if you tell them stuff like lobsters don’t need to be boiled alive, you have to just kill them right before boiling, which is pretty easy since you need to just do a sharp cut on the right place on their head
In this case there’s a lot more on the table though. If they’d start openly going after random civilians, that’s throwing the international laws, deals whatever, in the trash and that doesn’t lead to anything good. Ukraine’s support depends a lot on rest of the Europe too, and most of those countries aren’t willing to openly aid doing stuff like that, which could seriously hurt what Ukraine gets. Russia is already doing shitton of manipulation to get us europeans be against supporting Ukraine, so giving them more, easy ammo for that is idiotic
Yeah, they’ve spread across cities quite successfully, especially the ringnecks, they have breeding colonies in cities all around the world. These species adapt well in the city life apparently
The parrots are likely either indian ringnecks or monk parakeets, they’re the most common invasives, I think former the most - they’re also very common as pets. I know there’s some alexandrine parrots as well (they look like big ringnecks) and even amazon colony at least in one city, but they’re a lot rarer.
Ringnecks are really fast and skittish, and since they’re so intelligent it really is difficult to catch them. You likely have to change the method or at least the placement of the trap if you fail the first time. And if they see you do it, they’ll learn to avoid you as well
A lot of this tangles with moral purism as well. Simplified there are two groups of people: one accepts harm reduction (always chooses the Lesser Evil even though it is evil) and sees the actual real world consequences as the most important, and the other doesn’t accept harm reduction and thinks keeping personal moral integrity is more important than anything else (refuses to choose even if that means the Greater Evil wins, as long as their own morals stay pure).
You can see this divide in many places, easy ones to spot online are vegans (both in-group and out-group fighting) and in lemmy for example the usaian debate between “voted against trump because the least amount of genocide” vs. “didn’t vote to oppose Trump, because both candidates support genocide”

Oh the genetic confirmation for dingoes to have arrived in Australia is about 8000 years ago these days. So it’s about when did the extra muscles evolve and in which genetic lines? Dingoes and the new guinea singing dog are traced to have come from the wolves domesticated in Asia, so I guess they wouldn’t have them unless they evolved independently or the genes spread before they got separated in Guinea and Australia? But then do japanese breeds also not have them since they’re from the same lines probably? I don’t know, there’s just too little information online. Or if there’s more, I can’t find it
