  • Or they’re doing what my company does, and holding offerings open to harvest resumes, either to sell the data or to have people they can throw on a list for their recruitment staff. Also just pumping numbers for board meetings - “we had 9k applicants for these 3 positions” sounds impressive and not dystopian to a certain type of investor.

  • So nuclear weapons require a few more steps than a normal bomb in order to arm properly. A normal bomb can be impact fuzed and just arm itself as soon as it drops off the plane. A nuclear bomb has to have specific things happen in a specific order and specific timing in order to go off right, and is built very specifically to make sure there are multiple steps needed to even begin that process (theoretically). The positions here are “I just want to get rid of the bomb” (REL), which you would use in case of a crash or a forced landing with damage, or a fire or something, and “yes I’m sure I want to nuke that target” (ARM/REL).

Not even near term. Trump’s administration here in the US is bankrolling all kinds of fossil fuel investment and specifically curtailing renewables and trying the hardest to cancel renewable contracts, as well as nuclear. Various states are also doing this, for very little discernable reason. Sure, you can pop up a solar array pretty quick, but wind turbine farms take a while to build, same with hydro and tidal power where you can use those.
