  • Eh, I’m an optimist about the future. Not in the idea that the current system will work or anything. But I think humanity generally spirals upward. Maybe I want to skip the next 100 years or so but that’s still a pretty long time scale as far as our advancements since the industrial revolution go.

The propaganda is the series of influences that led you to believe it’s some natural epiphany you had for yourself and not an opinion shaped by those influences.

Plenty of people look at the same exact human behavior you do and come to positive conclusions. You are a product of your influences, and some of those influences come in the form of propaganda encouraging you to be apathetic and allow those sociopaths tearing us apart to thrive.

  • The op only said “writers are crazy if they’re not using AI these days”. If that means using AI to write your story then yes it’s bad. If it means using AI to research your story or outline your story or make a schedule/game plan for writing (in a similar way that musicians use computers to compose the music they otherwise play themselves). Well, that can still be bad but if they still write the words themselves it’s definitely different.

  • I just got around to reading the communist manifesto and was surprised by the fact that it doesn’t actually advocate for getting rid of money. It includes steps like having a very progressive tax, abolishing inheritance, and nationalizing banks but those all presume that there will still be money.

It then says that it will take multiple generations under these conditions for the idea of money to disappear and it will happen naturally.

I was also surprised to see that there’s a similar argument for property. That it advocates for seizing private property (which has a particular definition in the book) but says other forms of property can be kept around and will only be abolished naturally in a few generations.

  • Yeah if you don’t go to a lot of restaurants and realize the food is mid, you just aren’t good at cooking yet.

High quality restaurants that can beat my cooking exist, and are in every town. I’m not just comparing myself to a Michelin star. Another thing restaurants have over me are deep fryers and other superior cooking equipment, which make food I just can’t make myself.

And I would never deny, the way I make my home cooking taste better than a restaurant is by taking an hour or two to cook the food and being able to buy fresh, small quantity ingredients the day of.

But I mean come on. To your point, people who work in kitchens can make a better meal for themselves at the end of their shift than what they generally serve in a day. Restaurant food is designed for quantity and consistency, that’s about it.

It does not take very many tries to start cooking better than a restaurant. And the best part is you can make sure that only your favorite ingredients get in there.

After like maybe half a year of cooking for myself a couple times a week (instead of frozen food or like canned food) it’s seriously started to astound me how bad some restaurant food is.

I know take out is mostly for convenience, but if the problem is taste you’re in luck because the bar to clear for tastier food than take out is really really low.
