News@lemmy.world•The Mandalorian and Grogu has lowest box office opening for a Star Wars film in Disney era
16·2 months agoI’d like to see it, but I think it’ll be just fine on my TV at home. It’ll probably be streaming in no time.
I love the theater experience, but it’s too expensive right now.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Why are some people defending billionaires and corporations?
1·2 months agoThe guys with the ai warehouses and their own social networks can muddy the waters all day long. There are idiots defending them, sure, but I think/hope it is mostly fake.

Technology@lemmy.world•Plex increasing Lifetime Plex Pass cost to whopping $750English
141·2 months agoSigh. I still enjoy my Plex pass that I bought for < $100 but this is another sign to bail on them. I don’t particularly like them trying to further monetize my collection.
I do like the ease of sharing with friends and it does generally just work. But this is bad.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•If only the person who did this ceiling had their tools even half as well calibrated as mine areEnglish
1·2 months agoAre the cabinets level? This whole kitchen looks off.
Caulking around the large cracks and some matching paint would make it look much better.
If this was professionally done I’d call them back and have them fix it. Seems like craigslist level workmanship.
Start btop in another full screen terminal, and then run apt update. Then you’re fully in the matrix.
I have a blu-ray drive that got a lot of action at one point backing up movies. Now it just sits there sad and lifeless. This might be my inspiration to get that guy back in action.

Technology@lemmy.world•Software Engineers Say They're Losing the Ability to Code Now That AI Does It for ThemEnglish
32·2 months agoIt feels like relying on GPS while driving around. If you know the roads well and just want some help with live traffic or somewhere you haven’t been before, it’s a decent tool.
If you rely on it because you don’t want to think and just want to press the easy button, you’re going to have a bad time sooner or later.
Back to software, I think there are a lot of people introducing concepts they don’t understand or can’t maintain (either from poor quality slop or it is just too advanced for their current level of understanding). You can do a few turns like this, until you’re stuck burning tokens in a loop without moving forward in a meaningful way.
I try to avoid taking the easy route myself unless I’ve burnt too much time stuck on some small detail. Ultimately I feel it is super important to understand what you are delivering. Whether it is writing it yourself, copying a stack overflow post, or using an LLM. Once you commit and push to prod you’ve got to deal with that crap.

pics@lemmy.world•I really like the contrasting blue splotchiness
10·2 months agoTrump wanted to give 10+ mil taxpayer money to a crony. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a little taste himself, or gets some work comped on his properties. There is also probably an aspect of reminding people he existed years down the road when he’s dead, because he is a narcissist.
It certainly isn’t because it is a good idea.
You’re telling me If I have one item and give it away, in some cultures I’d have something other than no items? I’m not being sarcastic, that kind of blows my mind if true.
Correct. This is for the motion in the ocean.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Its a circus and we're the clowns
6·2 months agoThat seems like a great topic to cover at the end of the interview, at least traditionally.
That sucks you are in the situation, but what you said in your post plus a quick intro could probably get you a 3 min clip. If you are desperate to switch jobs you got this!

15·2 months agoThere are a couple of pricey delivery cookie places by my house.
I never used them before, but I was curious how much cookies actually cost these days. Getting a single cookie is $2.50 in-store, delivery is $7, so getting that single cookie delivered would be $9.50.
Getting a single cookie, however big, is crazy so you have to get two right? So that is $13. Then a tip and taxes, and damn that’s an expensive set of cookies.

1·2 months agoThrowing a <$1.00 bag of pretzels at you for a $1000+ ticket seems like the least they could do. They at one point served actual meals. They are turning it into an expensive bus ride in the air.
I wonder if future generations of toasters will require age verification since they are running an OS that can presumably get online? I hate it here, but luckily I have an analog toaster I intend to keep.
Maybe in the future during rolling blackouts caused by ai they’ll only permit a light toasting.

They’ll put a little “ai sometimes makes mistakes.” banner near the chat window. That should do it.
